Lysistrata
Withdrawal of love instead of clashing weapons: an ancient comedy reignited.
The name says it all: Lysistrata, the "army disbander". In the famous ancient comedy by Aristophanes, the women of Greece have had enough of eternal death and war propaganda. Under the leadership of the courageous Athenian woman Lysistrata, they forge a bold plan to finally end the Peloponnesian War.
The most radical strike in history The women not only occupy the Acropolis and control the state finances - they resort to a far more drastic means of exerting pressure: they refuse their husbands in the marriage bed. Only when the peace treaty has been signed are they allowed to make love again.
Antiquity meets youth culture How do you deal with material that is over 2000 years old? Together with the Gerhart-Hauptmann-Theater's TheatreYouthClub, we explore the power of radical solidarity. The young generation brings a breath of fresh air, humour and a modern spirit to this classic story. Discover with us:
- The power of community: how women overcome differences to achieve a common goal.
- Humour as a weapon: Why laughter is often the best response to unbearable situations.
- Pure joy of playing: An ensemble full of energy and a desire to experiment.
