Between the romance of prefabricated housing and the scent of freedom.
As part of the Neisse Film Festival 2026, Camillo Kino Görlitz is presenting a special highlight of the Polski Blues series: the animated film "Lonia". Based on the personal memories of director Łukasz Jan Kozak, the film takes us back to Zabrze in the 1990s - a time of radical social upheaval after the end of the Soviet Union.
What is the film about? Lonia is new to year 7 and brings a breath of fresh air to the industrial dreariness of the Silesian housing estates. While her classmates Romek and Damian vie for her favour with wild adventures, Lonia discovers the magic of life between concrete and a spirit of optimism.
Why you should see this film:
- Unique perspective: an animated film that tells the complexity of the transformation period from a child's point of view.
- Nostalgia factor: Perfect for anyone who wants to relive or rediscover the lifestyle of the 90s in Eastern Europe.
- Authenticity: An autobiographical story full of heart, humour and Silesian local colour.
