A coach, a team and a story that gets under your skin.
On Thursday, 21 May 2026, Camillo Kino Görlitz will be showing a documentary that looks far beyond the sidelines. At the centre is Thomas "Eichi" Eichstädt, who coaches the FC Pio team in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. His team is largely made up of young refugees like Asad and Thomas from Sierra Leone, who fight for recognition and a professional future every day.
Father figure with a dark side For his players, "Eichi" is far more than just a coach - he is a mentor, father figure and the most important support in everyday life in Germany. But the documentary by director Loraine Blumenthal also sheds light on the painful ambivalence of his life: Eichstädt looks back on his own dark past in the far-right scene.
Special highlight: film & discussion After the screening, you will have the unique opportunity to delve deeper into the subject matter. We welcome:
- Loraine Blumenthal (director)
- Thomas Eichstädt (protagonist)
Together with the audience, they will discuss integration, the power of sport and the difficult confrontation with one's own biography.
