Smy! - Am I?
Who are we - and what defines us?
The dance piece "Smy! - Am I?" by the Sorbian National Ensemble (SNE) is dedicated to one of the most elementary questions of humanity: the search for one's own identity. At the centre of Gundula Peuthert 's modern choreography are the Sorbian people, their traditions and, above all, their place in today's world.
Current voices from the region Numerous interviews with people from Lusatia served as the basis for this piece. Their answers, wishes and prejudices flow directly into the dance dialogue. The result is an authentic picture of Sorbian culture - beyond rigid clichés.
Diversity on stage The dancers in the international company bring their own backgrounds and nationalities to the table. The clash of "foreign" perspectives and the work within a minority in Germany makes the piece particularly exciting:
- Discovering similarities: Where do different lifestyles overlap?
- Breaking down prejudices: What is genuine custom and what is just an empty shell?
- Empathy through dance: a thought experiment that invites us to think about ourselves and our fellow human beings in a new way.
