Romeo and Juliet
Play by William Shakespeare
Violence dominates the streets of Verona. The feud between the Montague and Capulet families has terrorised the entire city for so long that no one knows why. Romeo, the son of the Montagues, is in love with Rosalind, and in order to see her, he manages to gain entry to a Capulet masked party despite the danger. He does not meet Rosalind - but he does meet a young stranger. They are both struck by love as if by lightning. What Romeo does not yet know is that the stranger is Juliet, daughter of the Capulets. And what could be the greatest happiness inevitably turns into the greatest misfortune. Juliet is promised to the Count of Paris, and when her secret love for Romeo is discovered, her parents are even more insistent that they go through with the planned marriage. To forestall this, Juliet and Romeo are secretly married by Father Lorenzo, who hopes that this will put an end to the family quarrel. But when Romeo's friend Mercutio dies the next day in a fight with Juliet's cousin Tybalt, Romeo loses his temper and stabs Tybalt to death. He has one last night at Juliet's side before he has to flee Verona ..
