Using outstanding and largely unknown archive material, director Sandra Prechtel creates an unusual portrait of theatre maker and all-round artist Einar Schleef. The montage of interviews, diaries, rehearsals and premieres allows Schleef and his productions to speak for themselves. The result is a picture of a resistant, vulnerable loner - celebrated and thwarted at the same time - who worked his way through the Federal Republic of Germany, German-German reality and the mechanisms of repression in post-war society.
