Deep in the west, back in 1998, three friends set out on a musical journey that continues to this day. Under the motto ‘Freedom for the Recorder’, they tour with their unusual line-up of recorder, guitar and double bass, bringing their brand of ‘wooden music’ to the people.
The name ‘Wildes Holz’ says it all for these three exceptional musicians. They move between rock and jazz, ballads and children’s songs, creating something entirely their own: a rich, rousing ‘wooden’ sound: brilliantly interwoven guitar and double bass lines, astonishing shifts in tempo and mood, and masterful improvisation. Over the years, their range of instruments has also expanded. Up to 15 recorders are used in their concerts, ranging from the small soprano recorder to the 2-metre-tall sub-contrabass recorder. The guitar and double bass are now joined by the mandolin, jazz guitar and sometimes even the singing saw.
With their spirited and always humorous performances, the three classically trained musicians have also made it onto the stages of television shows – including alongside Hape Kerkeling.
Their new stage show, ‘Block Party!’, is a journey through the party music of the past four centuries.
Wildes Holz are: Tobias Reisige – recorders; Johannes Behr – guitar; Markus Conrads – double bass, mandolin
