The tip is given on top if the guest is satisfied with the waiter's performance. Germans here often don't seem too fond of their waiter's performance and prefer to save for - well, what for? Perhaps for the expected electricity bill, or for the decades-long education of their children, or for a befitting burial place. Who knows.

In the programme "Trinkgeld darf auch knistern", Anke Geißler alias Monika Weingeist - the waitress - serves up a feast of hybrid seasoning, natural flavours and crunchy variety. The guests are numerous characters who get chatting, tromboning and singing in the restaurant so that it just crackles.
