The choir of the Pestalozzistraße Synagogue in Berlin and soloists from the choir of the White Stork Synagogue in Wroclaw invite you on a musical journey through the Jewish calendar. In this concert, they will highlight the most important holidays and stages of the liturgical year in different traditions of the diaspora. The repertoire includes music for Rosh ha-Shanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot, Passover and Shabbat and provides an insight into the spiritual and stylistic diversity of Jewish religious music. The programme includes works by Zavel Zilberts, Sol Zim and Max Yanowski. The programme is complemented by the classical synagogue tradition of Louis Lewandowski, one of the central figures in the reform of Jewish music in the 19th century.
The programme also includes compositions by Meir Machtenberg, Sholom Secunda, Jacob Rapaport and Meir Finkelstein. The programme reveals the continuity and diversity of the Jewish musical tradition - from Central and Eastern Europe to America - embedded in the rhythm of the religious year and communal life.
The music of a people that has lived in war for years should move us with its beauty and express the language of peace through the encounter between artists and audience. Let's meet in music at the 37th Silesian Music Festivals in Wrocław, Jauer/Jawor, Zgorzelec and Görlitz!
