This evening promises a journey back in time 100 years to the Wild or Golden Twenties of the 20th century. Variety, theatre and operetta brought sparkling wit and exuberance to the small and large stages of the metropolis of Berlin. Many authors, composers and stage artists were Jewish.
In Görlitz, the great moments of the art of entertainment are revived in a unique show. The Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie is the stage orchestra for singer and presenter Ethel Merhaut.
The Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie is based in Bad Lausick and is the only professional orchestra in Germany that performs with symphonic wind instruments. With almost 75 years of existence, the ensemble, formerly the Leipzig Radio Wind Orchestra, can look back on an eventful orchestral history. Currently, the Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie has been awarded the international music prize OPUS-KLASSIK 2023 (successor to the Echo Klassik) as "Ensemble of the Year" with its recording "La Valse" (released by hänssler Classic) under the direction of Peter Sommerer.
The singer Ethel Merhaut, who has Russian-Jewish roots, is an integral part of the young Viennese music scene and is no longer an insider tip internationally. With great charm and musical dedication, she dusts off chansons, foxtrots, film music and tangos from the 1920s and 30s as well as Yiddish songs by the composers and lyricists of the time. In addition to her singing skills, Ethel is also a
witty, charming presenter.
